Dear Reader,
You have stumbled onto this page and I have five seconds to grab your attention but I don't have a clue what I can possible say to make you stay. All I can tell you is that this is the first blog entry to what I hope becomes a pretty interesting journey.
I have challenged myself to finally do something with this website. I have owned "ebook-mom" for more than three years and I haven't really done much with it. In the beginning, I had a lot of plans for it but nothing every really got done. I did have some success in writing some pages on free e-book websites but that's about it. I've always wanted to do so much more.
In the beginning, I had the good intention of promoting family reading but that was a dismal failure because I couldn't even get my family to read. Although recently my son, who is a high school senior, discovered John Green and went on a reading binge and read The Fault in our Stars, An Abundance of Katherines and is currently reading Paper Towns. John Green, you are AWESOME for writing such great stories and getting my kid to read!
The thing is, my kid stumbled on these books on his own. I had nothing to do with it. I own the Fault in our Stars - it's on my Kindle Fire - but he preferred to check it out of his school library. So, I can't take credit for his reading choices.
I own a lot of great books but my children don't want anything to do with them. My ten-year-old won't read anything besides the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. I do own a couple of those books and have them stored on my Kindle Fire. I wish she would read some of the books I have collected for our family library but she doesn't show any interest.
So you see, I'm kind of a big fraud when it comes to promoting family reading because I can't get it done in my house. Now, it's decision time: what should I do about this blog? Should I give up the idea of promoting family reading or should I continue to pursue it and work until I find success?
Tune in next week . . . .
