Men of Sunday BookSneeze Review

The Men of Sunday and How Faith Guides the Players, Coaches and Wives of the NFL is a real eye-opener.  I never knew that a culture of prayer and worship exists in the NFL.  This book is a wonderful compilation of the different spiritual experiences of the players, coaches and wives.  You might assume that this book is totally about proving that there is a spiritual side to the NFL; but, this book is so much more than just a statement.  Instead it's the story of how a sport with a culture of violence yields to the hopes and beliefs of its players.   Even though this book doesn't "talk" football, it answers a lot of questions about how men and women of faith participate in such a competitive and aggressive sport and still stay faithful.

Insightful examination

When I selected this book, I thought it was going to be totally about the game of football but the book is truly an insightful examination of the personal lives of the people who play and live the sport. I am in awe of players who draw upon their faith and come out being stronger than we'd expect.  Stories about overcoming personal tragedies and emotional statements from players and coaches, illustrate that strong faith and spiritual practices make better players.  In fact, many coaches look for players of faith when they are recruiting.  This book tells us why players of faith make strong team members.  Wow, were my eyes opened!  I'm not a person who seeks out books about spirituality or religion but I'm so glad that I picked this book.

Extraordinary phenomena

This book doesn't preach or spend page after page trying to prove a point, it's just a thoughtful examination of an extraordinary phenomena taking place in the NFL.   I found that the author conveys Biblical truth in a way that a non-spiritual person can understand.  You don't have to be religious to understand this book.   I think whether or not you're a fan of the NFL or just someone who is curious about what happens before and after the big game, this book delivers.
